Let the whole team choose, with a dot vote
When a board is full of ideas, the hard part is choosing. A dot vote asks everyone at once: each person gets a few votes to place on the notes they back, nobody sees anyone else's until the vote ends, and the results are ranked for the room to talk about.
The prompt: Brainstorm ways to reduce customer churn for a B2B SaaS product and group the ideas into themes.
How to run it
- 1Put the options on the board, one per sticky — or select a pile of ideas and ask the AI to group them into themes first, as above.
- 2In the round bar at the top of the board, switch on Vote, choose how many votes each person gets and how long the vote runs, and press Start vote. Allow several on one note if people may stack their votes, or limit the vote to the frames you selected.
- 3Everyone chooses Vote in the bar and clicks the notes they back. The bar shows how many votes they have left and how many people have voted — never who voted for what.
- 4When time is up, or when you end it, the counts appear on the notes and the results are listed in order. Click one to go to it on the board.
Why the vote is anonymous, and hidden until it ends
If people can see where the votes are going, the last to vote follow the first. Until the vote ends, each person sees only their own votes and how many people have voted, so every vote is somebody's own choice — and once it ends, everybody sees the same totals. The vote is anonymous throughout: Kaavit never shows who voted for what, not even to the person who started it.
Questions
Is voting on the free plan?
Yes. Voting and timers are on every plan, the free one included. Private drafts in a round are on Team.
Is the vote anonymous?
Yes. Kaavit never shows who voted for what, during the vote or after it, not even to whoever started it. Until the vote ends each person sees only their own votes; afterwards everyone sees the totals. Cursors stay live during a vote, as they are everywhere on a board, so people can still see where somebody is pointing.
Who can vote?
Everyone who can open the board and is signed in: members of your organisation and invited guests. Somebody following a share link without an account can watch the vote but is asked to sign in to vote. Starting a vote takes permission to edit the board.
What can people vote on?
Stickies, shapes, text and images — not frames, connectors, drawings or groups. A vote can be limited to the frames you select when you start it.
