Kaavit vs Mural: a Mural alternative for small teams

Mural is an online whiteboard built around facilitation: timers, anonymous voting, private mode and hundreds of templates, with services for large companies behind it. Kaavit is a smaller, newer whiteboard: a shared board, AI that turns a prompt into a diagram, and sharing that is generous on the free plan.

If you are looking for a Mural alternative, here is how the two compare, fact by fact, with a link to where each fact about Mural comes from.

Where Kaavit is different

Sharing on the free plan. Kaavit's Free plan lets you invite guests by email to comment or edit, and make a link that lets anyone edit for up to 7 days; on Mural's Free plan visitors are view-only, and guests are listed from Business.

AI that you can take back. Everything Kaavit's AI draws is ordinary sticky notes, shapes and connectors, laid out by Kaavit rather than placed by the model, and a whole generation reverts in one step — only where nobody has changed it since.

AI tools that suggest. Both products let an AI tool work on a board over MCP. In Kaavit, what a tool adds appears on the board, and a change to what somebody else put there arrives as a suggestion for a person to accept, change by change.

When Mural is the better choice

If facilitation is your work — workshops, design sprints, large sessions — Mural has more for it, on every plan: private mode, a facilitator lock, an outline with steps you reveal, and more than 250 templates.

If your company needs single sign-on, audit logs, a choice of where data lives, integrations with Teams, Zoom or Jira, or people to help roll it out, Mural has all of them and Kaavit does not yet: Kaavit is new, and run by one person in Finland.

Moving from Mural

Kaavit cannot import murals. Most teams start new work in Kaavit and leave finished murals where they are; for one you want to bring across, paste its text into the AI prompt and ask for it as a board.

Questions

Is Kaavit cheaper than Mural?

Kaavit's Team plan is €8 per member a month, billed monthly, plus VAT. Mural's Team+ plan is shown as $9.99 per member a month billed annually, or $12 billed monthly, in US dollars, as viewed from Finland on the date below. The currencies differ, so check both pricing pages for your country and taxes.

Does Kaavit have a private mode?

On the Team plan, as a timed round: everyone writes drafts only they can see, and the drafts are revealed together when the time is up. Voting and plain timers are on every plan.

Does Kaavit have Mural's AI features?

Some. Both group sticky notes into themes and make mind maps, and Kaavit also draws flowcharts, architecture diagrams and org charts from a prompt. Mural lists summaries and sentiment classification as features of their own; in Kaavit you would ask the AI for them in your own words.
