Kaavit vs Miro: a simpler Miro alternative
Miro is a widely used online whiteboard: a large platform with thousands of templates, hundreds of integrations and AI across boards, docs and slides. Kaavit is a smaller, newer whiteboard that does less, on purpose: a shared board, AI that turns a prompt into a diagram, and sharing that is generous on the free plan.
If you are looking for a Miro alternative, here is how the two compare, fact by fact, with a link to where each fact about Miro comes from.
At a glance
| Topic | Kaavit | Miro |
|---|---|---|
| Free plan | Free, with no card: 10 boards, 5 members, and a one-time AI trial for the organisation. | Free, with “up to 3 editable boards” and unlimited team members. Source |
| Paid plan | Team: €8 per member a month, billed monthly, plus VAT. Unlimited boards and members. | Starter: €10 per member a month billed monthly, or €8 billed yearly. Business: €25 monthly, or €20 yearly. Enterprise: custom, from 30 members. Source |
| Guests on the free plan | Yes: 3 guests per board, invited by email, who are not counted as members. | No: on Free “there are no visitor or guest roles”, and anyone invited becomes a member. Source |
| Share links on the free plan | View or edit, with no account needed. A link that lets people edit lasts up to 7 days. Commenting needs an account. | View only; commenting and editing by link need a paid plan. Source |
| AI | Draws diagrams and boards from a prompt, groups and sorts notes into frames, and changes what you select. Kaavit lays out what it draws, and any generation can be reverted in one step. | Diagrams (flowcharts, UML, entity relationships), clustering of sticky notes, summaries, translation and more, on every plan, paid for with monthly AI credits. Source |
| Templates | Twelve, for retrospectives, brainstorms, meetings, kanban, prioritisation, roadmaps, project hubs, customer journeys, story maps, business model and lean canvases, and incident reviews — and the AI sets up other boards on request. | “7000+ Miro and community-made templates”. Source |
| Integrations | One, on every plan: AI tools like Claude Code connect over MCP to read boards and draw on them. | “250+ integrations”. Source |
| Where boards are stored | In the EU (the Netherlands), on every plan. | Depends on the plan: Miro's pricing page lists data residency in the EU, US, Australia and Japan under Enterprise. Source |
| Comments and live cursors | Both, on every plan. | Both: comments pinned to the board or an object, and each collaborator's cursor. Source |

Where Kaavit is different
Sharing on the free plan. Kaavit's Free plan lets you invite guests by email to view, comment or edit; on Miro's Free plan there is no guest role, and anyone invited becomes a member.
AI that you can take back. Everything Kaavit's AI draws is ordinary sticky notes, shapes and connectors, laid out by Kaavit rather than placed by the model, and a whole generation reverts in one step — only where nobody has changed it since. You can also generate as drafts only you can see, and reveal them when you are ready.
Less to learn. Kaavit is a whiteboard and nothing else: no docs, slides, prototypes or workflows. If a board is what your team needs, there is less in the way of it.
When Miro is the better choice
If your team needs a template for everything, connections to the tools it already uses, or AI beyond the board — documents, slides, prototypes — Miro has far more of all of it.
If you need a choice of where your data lives, or an established vendor with a support organisation behind it, Miro is that and Kaavit is not yet: Kaavit is new, and run by one person in Finland.
Moving from Miro
Kaavit cannot import Miro boards. Most teams start new work in Kaavit and leave finished boards where they are; for a board you want to bring across, paste its text into the AI prompt and ask for it as a board.
Questions
Is Kaavit cheaper than Miro?
Kaavit's Team plan is €8 per member a month, billed monthly, plus VAT. Miro's Starter plan is shown as €10 per member a month billed monthly, or €8 billed yearly, as viewed from Finland on the date below. Check both pricing pages for your country and taxes.
Does Kaavit have Miro's AI features?
Some. Both generate diagrams and group notes. Kaavit's AI works only on the board — it does not write documents, slides or prototypes.
Can I use Kaavit and Miro side by side?
Yes. Kaavit exports boards as PNG images and their text as Markdown, and nothing about it requires you to stop using another tool.
