Build a user story map with your team

A backlog is a list; a user story map shows how the stories fit what somebody is trying to do. The Story map template gives you the backbone — activities and the steps under them — and the release slices, so the team spends the session on the stories.

The Story map template is on every plan, the free one included.

The Story map template: Activities and Steps along the top, then First release, Next release and Later.

How to use it

  1. 1In Kaavit, choose New board and pick it under Start from, or use Insert template on the toolbar of a board you already have.
  2. 2Write who the user is and what they are trying to get done at the top.
  3. 3Along Activities, add the big things somebody does, left to right, and under each one in Steps, what it takes. Stuck? Describe the product and ask the AI for them.
  4. 4Put each story under its step, in the release it should ship in, and drag stories between the slices as the team argues about scope.
  5. 5Read across First release: if every step has a story in it, somebody can use what you ship from start to finish.

Or ask the AI

A real result, not a mock-up: what the AI planned for this prompt, laid out by Kaavit as it would be on your board.

The prompt: User story map for a food delivery app. Activities across the top: find food, order, pay, track delivery. Under each, the steps, then the stories for the first release and for later.

A first draft from one prompt: the activities across, the steps under them, and a story for each release.

Questions

Can I add more releases?

Yes. The releases are frames: copy one, rename it, and drag it into place.

Can the AI write the stories?

It can: select a step and ask for the stories under it. It adds them as ordinary stickies, placed together, so drag each one under its step.
