Draw a software architecture diagram from a list of parts
A system architecture diagram goes stale because redrawing it is tedious. List the parts and how they talk to each other; the AI groups them, Kaavit lays them out, and the whole team can keep the diagram up to date on the board.
The prompt: architecture diagram: react spa, node api, websocket server, background worker, postgres, redis
How the architecture diagram generator works
- 1Open the AI prompt and list the components — the example above was one line naming six of them.
- 2The AI can group related components into frames and label the connections between them; Kaavit's layout places the groups and routes the lines.
- 3Edit it like anything else on the board: rename a service, recolour a group, drag a database into another frame.
- 4Select the diagram later and ask for a change — add a cache between the API and the database — and the AI adds it in the diagram's own style.
Review it where it is drawn
Use it for a system design review: pin comments to the service you have a question about, share the board with the team that owns it, and resolve the thread when it is settled. Version history keeps what the diagram looked like before.
Questions
Can it import from code or infrastructure files?
No. The AI works from what you describe and what is already on the board; paste in a component list or a description and it works from that.
Does it draw icons?
Yes, from Kaavit's own icon library — a server, a database, a queue, a phone, a person — with each part's name under its icon, as in the example. They are generic icons, not cloud providers' logos, and anyone can change an icon or add one from the toolbar.
